Question :
Provide your rationales to support your opinions in choosing a teaching model for teaching English skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking)
Answer :
Problem Based Learning (PBL)
Problem-based learning (PBL) model is a way of teaching using a problem, query or puzzle as the focus for student activity. Shaw et al considers PBL as an innovative learning method that forces academic learning to engage with practice. The problems are taken from practice, possible solutions are found from the learning process, and the learning is a transferable skill that prepares students to tackle future practice issues. In essence, this model challenges students to “learn and learn”.
In Problem Based Learning, there are five syntax in it, namely:
1. Define the problem
Teacher directs students to define the meanings of a problem, limiting and focusing in area.
2. Identify Problem
Student explore the causes and effects of the problem.
3. Formulate Solution
Student think up as many possible solutions as possible.
4. Determine and Apply the Solution
Student review their chosen solution's benefits and side effects, explain the reason behind how it is the best one.
5. Evaluate the succes of the solution
Students and teacher discuss what aspects of the problem that have been and have not been solved.
In my opinion, I choose this learning model because the Problem Based Learning Model (PBL) is a way of teaching that uses problems, questions or puzzles as the focus of student activities. problem-based learning is also an innovative learning method that forces academic learning to engage with practice. In essence, this model challenges students to "study and learn." In my opinion, this Learning Model also affects students a lot in terms of reading, writing and listening. As found in the first syntax of defining the problem, students are taught to read more to be able to define the problem given by the teacher. Students are also taught to speak or speak as when students identify problems that have been obtained or sought from problems given by the teacher. In this model students are also trained to write through group discussions which have been instructed by the teacher to discuss aspects of problems that have been found or have not been solved.
