# Question

1. Provi your rationales to support your opinions in choosing a teaching model for teaching English skills (reading, writting, listening, and speaking)

# Answer

In teaching and learning, we must be able to determine in advance what teaching methods we want to use in teaching and learning, especially in English language skills (Listening, speaking, reading and writing). One of the teaching methods that I took is Direct Instruction.

First of all we have to know What is Direct Instruction?

So the Direct Instruction model is a teacher-centered learning model (teacher / lecturer). When implementing the Direct Intruction learning model, the teacher (teacher / lecturer) must demonstrate the knowledge and skills that will be trained or given to students, step by step. The teacher (teacher / lecturer) as the center of attention has a very influential role. Therefore, in direct instruction, the teacher must be an attractive model for students. The teacher (teacher / lecturer) acts as a conveyor of information (providing information), and in this case the teacher (teacher / lecturer) can teach using various suitable media. , for example, such as films, tape recorders, pictures, shows, etc.

My reason for supporting my opinion about why I took this learning model is that in every teaching there must be a syntax (steps) that must be considered because it is very important. The steps of the Direct Instruction learning model that I encountered are like:

1. Convey learning objectives and preparing students.

In this first step the teacher (teacher / lecturer) must explain specific learning objectives, provide information about what background will be studied, provide information on why the learning material is important, and prepare students both physically and mentally to start learning activities.

2. Demonstrate knowledge or skills.

In this second step the teacher (teacher / lecturer) acts as a model by demonstrating knowledge or skills correctly, the teacher must convey / provide information in stages step by step according to the correct structure and sequence. If a teacher provides a lot of information without following the structure, that is an example of a bad teacher. Because the students' abilities are not all the same.

In showing knowledge, you can use various media such as: presenting a show through a power point or it can be through a film, showing images according to learning.

3. Guiding training.

Teachers must provide initial guidance and training so that students can master the knowledge and skills being taught. such as communicating with the media, examples of images.

For example, I gave a picture that tells a descriptive "There was a birthday event. On the birthday there were some clowns wearing colorful clothes and funny faces. The children were happy while singing and playing some games." Here can train students to digest reading and hearing, so that it can improve reading and listening in good English

4. Check understanding and provide feedback (feedback).

The teacher checks whether the students can do the task well, whether they have mastered the knowledge or skills, and then provides the appropriate feedback.

For example, something like, "I ask students questions related to the picture, such as:

What events are held ?. What is the clown using ?. and What are the children doing?

Here can train students in speaking and meeting feedback about the descriptive.

5. Provide opportunities for further training and application.

The teacher then provides opportunities for all students to do advanced exercises. Can be in the form of writing activities, so that it can train students' skills in writing English.

After I implemented the steps of the Direct Instruction method that I had designed with examples, I was also successful in using this method, so that learning went smoothly.

That is the reason that supports my opinion in choosing a teaching model to teach English language skills that can also include practicing reading, writing, listening and speaking.
